“Comfort & Food”

Savory reduction cooked low and slow,
Tender meat cooked with love and care.
Intoxicating aroma fills the air,
I groan as my hunger grows.
Buttery scent wafting from kitchen’s core,
My stomach begging with subtle roar.
Freshly baked biscuits on counter top,
I’ll savor their flavor to the very last drop.
Mom knows they are my favorite treat,
Waiting patiently as everyone sits down to eat.

Before we can devour this feast of great magnitude,
We clasp hands, bow our heads to show gratitude,
To God for all the things He has given.
We thank God for the food prepared,
We thank Him for the humble lives we’re living.
We thank God for family, the roof over our head.
We thank God for the bond we share.
We thank Him for our cozy beds.
We close the prayer with an, “Amen!”
We grab forks and knives and then dig in.

Flaky biscuits with butter in its many layers,
Tender brisket with a harmony of flavors.
Delicious greens that look like tiny trees,
Covered in my favorite cheddar cheese.
River of gravy over mashed potato hills,
I eat and eat until I’ve had more than my fill.
We talk about our day, socialize over sweets.
I tell my folks there’s no place I’d rather be,
This quality time when my family meets,
For dinnertime, it’s a comfort to me.
Thank you, God, for my Loving Family!
